What is Tongkat ali?
Tongkat Ali (scientific name: Eurycoma longifolia Jack.) is a small evergreen tree of the genus Maleopsis in the family Balsam. 4 to 6 m tall, up to 18 m, trunk diameter up to 30.5 cm, the root light yellow; Leaves alternate, odd pinnate compound, ca. 30 ~ 100cm long, leaflets opposite or subopposite, long ovate or lanceolate; Panicles terminal or axillary, mauve red; Drupes ca. 12 mm long, oval, yellow to reddish-brown at maturity. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruit period is from August to September.

The roots, stems and branches of Donggeali contain alkaloids. Alkaloids have been isolated and identified from Donggeali, including: 9, 10-dimethoxy-ferricomidone, 10-hydroxy-9-methoxy-ferricomidone, 11-hydroxy-10-methoxy-ferricomidone, 5,9-dimethoxy-ferricomidone, 9-methoxy-3-methylcarbino-5, 6-dione, β-carboline alkaloids, etc. From the perspective of chemical structure, the alkaloid components are mainly composed of ferricomidone structures.
In addition to terpenoids and alkaloids, alarge number of compounds have been isolated and identified from Dongge Ali, Such as curcumene, 5-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid -δ-lactone, propylene glycol benzene ether, amnionic acid, benzoin, menthol, 2-phenoxy ethanol, 4-ethyl-4-hydroxy-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclogenesis - 1-enone, 7-methoxy prolactin and so on. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that the main chemical constituents of Dongge Ali are morphein diterpenoids and alkaloids, and their extracts can play a certain role in improving male sexual function.
