What is Pine Needles ?
Pine needle, also known as pine leaf, bristle pine leaf, pine hair, or mountain pine beard, is a needle-shaped leaf of the genus Pinaceae and is one of the main by-products of the genus Pinaceae. Masson Pine, Huashan pine, cedar, red pine, black pine, Pinus tabulaeformis, wet pine, Yunnan pine and so on are all medicinal pine plants. Pine needles are the main medicinal parts of Pinus. Pine leaves are needle-shaped, 6-18cm long and about 0.1cm in diameter. Pinus huashan leaves are 5 needles in a bunch, Pinus huangshan, Pinus masson and Pinus oleifolium are 2 needles in a bunch. The base has a sheath about 0.5cm long, the leaves are dark green or dry green, the surface is smooth, and there is a thin groove in the center. It is crisp. Smell slightly sweet, taste slightly bitter.

The function of regulating blood lipids and lowering blood pressure

Chen Changwu et al. studied the anti-aging effect of pine needles, and found that the dry powder extract of pine needles could inhibit the lipid peroxidation induced by free radicals. Experiments proved that pine needles could significantly increase SOD activity and reduce serum lipid peroxidation (LPO) content in rats, indicating that pine needles extract could alleviate the tissue damage caused by lipid peroxides, and these effects were related to anti-aging.
Improve sleep function
Zhao Guizhe et al. studied the effects of pine on sedation, hypnosis and brain neurotransmitters. The experimental results showed that pine needles n-butanol extract and ethyl acetate extract could prolong the sleep time and increase the number of sleep mice. The peak area of gamma-aminobutyric acid and glutamic acid in hippocampus of brain was detected by HPLC. The experiment showed that pine needle extract can also increase the content of gamma-aminobutyric acid in hippocampus, which has obvious sedative and hypnotic effect.
