What is Red Ginseng ?
Red ginseng (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertn.) is a perennial herb of the genus Panax paniculatum.Rhizome short, upright, accretion a section every year, commonly known as "reed head". Taproots are stout, fleshy, cylindrical or fusiform. Palmate compound leaf whorled stem end, compound leaf with long stalk, leaf blade mostly 5, margin serrate, with sparse seta along vein above. Umbel terminal.
Red ginseng is a cultivated product of Acanthaceae ginseng. After steaming, the dried roots and rhizomes are dug in autumn. Red ginseng is processed by soaking, cleaning, sorting, steaming, drying and drying fresh ginseng.
The main components of red ginseng are triterpenoid saponins, volatile oils, polysaccharides, amino acids, trace elements, polypeptides and so on. Triterpenoid saponins and polysaccharides of red ginseng are the main pharmacological active components.
According to the 2015 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, this product shall contain not less than 0.25% ginsenoside Rg1(C42H72O14) and ginsenoside Re(C48H82O18) and not less than 0.20% ginsenoside Rb1(C54H92O23) according to dry products.
